Ida Barbour Early Learning Center – New Discoveries

Look into the eyes of every child and you will see their eagerness to learn. There’s a spark with each new discovery. And each new discovery is a step in the pathway to future learning. At Ida Barbour Early Learning Center, we prepare each child for success in school, in community, and in life. Our aim is to enhance quality of life for at-risk children and their families by providing care in a safe, nurturing, and highly enriching environment. IBELC’s “Motown Holiday Show 2014”

On December 16, 2014, the students and teachers of Ida Barbour Early Learning Center put on a holiday concert at the Sports Hall of Fame in Olde Towne. This “Motown Holiday Show” featured singing and dancing, and also included a short fashion show. Turnout for the show was excellent, and all of the students and staff did a fantastic job! Special thanks go out the the ladies from Harbourview Bon Secours for the adorable dresses worn by our models!

Organic Vegetable Garden Groundbreaking Ceremony

The Portsmouth, Virginia Chapter of The Links, Incorporated has generously provided the children and families of Ida Barbour Early Learning Center with an organic vegetable garden.  A groundbreaking ceremony was held on December 3, 2014. The garden, planted on the grounds of IBELC, is a valuable teaching tool as well as a source of nutrition for our children.  It will allow students to participate in activities such as planting, tilling, and watering, helping them feel more connected to their food and how it is grown.  We believe that this garden will have an overwhelmingly positive effect on IBELC and the surrounding community.
